IoT 30A Relay Switch Using ESP8266 – Community Innovation Share
This project showcases a high-current IoT relay switch (up to 30A) built around the ESP8266, designed for safely controlling heavy electrical loads through Wi-Fi. It’s a practical solution for smart home automation, power control, and DIY IoT applications where reliability and simplicity matter.
Project Overview
The core of the design is an ESP8266 module paired with a 30A relay, allowing users to remotely switch high-power AC or DC loads. The PCB layout keeps power and control sections properly separated, ensuring safer operation while maintaining a compact form factor.
The relay can handle loads ranging from very low currents (~10 mA) up to 30A, making it suitable for lights, heaters, motors, and other appliances.
Firmware & Configuration
- One of the best parts of this project is how easy it is to get started with the firmware.
- Firmware flashing: Done directly from the browser using web.esphome.io
- No external tools required: Just a USB connection and a supported browser
- Configuration: Managed using a simple ESPHome YAML file
- With ESPHome, the relay can be quickly integrated into Home Assistant or other compatible platforms. The YAML-based setup makes customization straightforward, even for beginners.
Why This Project Is Useful
- Supports high-current loads (up to 30A)
- Simple web-based firmware flashing
- Easy customization using YAML
- Ideal for DIY smart switches, automation panels, and IoT experiments
