Compact 3.3V LDO Power Module for MCUs

This project introduces a compact and dependable 3.3 V LDO regulator module built around the AMS1117-3.3, specifically designed to power modern low-voltage microcontrollers such as ESP32, STM32, RP2040, and similar logic-level devices. It provides a simple and robust solution for stepping down higher DC input voltages without the complexity of switching regulators.
The module accepts a 5 V to 12 V DC input and delivers a clean, regulated 3.3 V output, making it ideal for development boards, sensors, communication modules, and embedded prototypes. The AMS1117’s linear regulation ensures low noise, which is especially important for Wi-Fi MCUs, analog sensors, and sensitive digital circuits.
From a hardware design perspective, the PCB layout is optimized for stability and ease of use. Proper input and output capacitors are placed close to the regulator to maintain voltage stability and minimize ripple. Clearly marked VIN, VOUT, and GND pads allow quick integration into breadboards, custom PCBs, or test setups, while the compact form factor keeps the module unobtrusive in space-constrained designs.
This LDO module is particularly useful in projects where simplicity, reliability, and predictable behavior are more important than maximum efficiency. It serves both as a practical power solution and as a clean reference design for anyone learning about linear regulators and MCU power requirements. Overall, this AMS1117-based 3.3 V regulator module is a small but essential building block—perfect for powering microcontrollers and logic circuits reliably in everyday maker and embedded hardware projects.
