This is just a share of the project from https://github.com/alvaroalea/QL_mIce_Starmouse — all credit goes to the original author, Alvaro Alea Fernandez. ICE was an early graphical environment for the Sinclair QL, shipped on a ROM cartridge, and version 2 added mouse control. This project is a 1:1 hardware clone of that cartridge, redrawn in KiCad from photographs of the original board, so it can be built fresh or used as a reference when repairing an original. The board carries a socket for the ICE ROM chip plus the original mouse-interface circuitry built from 74-series logic. The original needed a bus mouse, a dumb device that fed raw X/Y encoder signals straight to the host, and those are now almost impossible to find. A second board based on a Waveshare RP2040-Zero therefore emulates that bus mouse from an ordinary USB mouse. It can also emulate Starmouse, a rival Spanish interface that signals through the second joystick port, and an on-board switch selects between the two modes on the fly. The design is entirely through-hole, measures 125.73 x 71.374 mm, and Gerbers are pre-generated for five PCB manufacturers. A 3D-printable case and sticker artwork are included. Everything is released under the CERN Open Hardware Licence v2 — Strongly Reciprocal.
