Pico GG LCD – RP2040 Game Gear Screen Replacement
Pico GG LCD is a DIY screen replacement for the Sega Game Gear. An RP2040 board captures the console’s digital video and sends it to a modern LQ035NC111 LCD, which has far better contrast than the original screen.
The RP2040’s PIO state machines and DMA capture each frame into RAM, and a CPU core upscales the image for the LCD. A PMOD HDMI adapter header also allows HDMI output, and a small boost converter on the board powers the LCD backlight.
The board is a simple 2-layer design in KiCad 8, with a handful of 0805 passives and several through-hole parts. It connects to the Game Gear with short wires to marked solder pads.
