Virginia Tech RockSat-X

Virginia Tech's RockSat-X team is composed of a small group of multi-disciplinary undergraduate engineering students.

Each year, we design a new payload that is flown on a sub-orbital trajectory out of the NASA Wallops Flight Facility aboard a sounding rocket. Multiple other design teams also fly aboard the rocket.

Due to the pandemic, our 2021 payload was delayed and has not yet flown. Thankfully, we are able to fly it as well as our 2022 payload during the next launch in August.

Our designs are two separate systems, with their respected mission statements below:

2021 Mission Statement:

  • Develop a direction finding system capable of receiving and recording multiple channels of raw I/Q data from ADS-B packets while flying aboard a sounding rocket.

2022 Mission Statement:

  • Develop a Langmuir probe system capable of recording and recovering current-voltage curve characteristics while in flight between the E and F layers of the ionosphere.

We are excited to be a part of PCBWay's sponsor program and thank them for their support!
