WHO IS WILDCAT RACING?

Wildcat Racing was started at Northern Michigan University in 2001. After four years of attending national events and designing, our team's first car was made. It was hydrostatically driven and was later converted into a hybrid EV a few years later. After COVID, the team was low on members, and we have only recently started to return to form. We are currently building our most recently designed car and hope to attend a national event in 2027.

Our Current Needs

Currently, we have run into issues with our machined components, as our experienced machinist. We wanted to machine our own gearbox and wheel hubs; however, even after simplifying the design, we still do not have the talent to machine the components. We would also like to develop testing computers to track RPM, heat, and impact stress around the car but do not have the facilities to manufacture and program the testing apparatus.

Looking Forward

We would like to have our current car built and tested in time for a 2027 SAE BAJA National event. We have been setting a good foundation of knowledge and PR outreach for future generations of teams to more effectively design and build the cars and find sponsors. We would like to shrink our current build cycle of cars from 4-5 years to 2-3 years to allow team members in each generation to attend National events and get feedback from industry professionals.
