Project KATARA Vitachain – Enactus Moroccan National Champions

1. About the Institution :

Vitachain is a flagship social entrepreneurship project developed by the Enactus team at the Faculty of Science Ben M'sik (FSBM). Operating within Morocco’s vibrant academic ecosystem, our institution is dedicated to developing innovative, tech-driven solutions that address pressing humanitarian and environmental challenges.

2. About Our Team & Project :

We are the reigning Enactus Moroccan National Champions. Our team is composed of multidisciplinary students dedicated to leveraging technology for social inclusion. Our current primary initiative, Vitachain, tackles the critical global issue of food waste and inefficient resource management at the source. To solve this, we are developing Katara, a smart, accessible agricultural IoT device. Katara is designed to be deployed in rural farming communities, optimizing crop yields and preventing resource waste by creating accessible, smart resource management systems that empower local farmers.

3. Project Overview :

For the current season, our focus is entirely on iterating and deploying the V1 prototype of the Katara device. Our goal is to develop a highly integrated, reliable system that balances technical performance with absolute accessibility for rural users. The physical hardware relies heavily on remote data transmission and real-time environmental monitoring, bridging the gap between advanced agricultural technology and everyday farming communities. Alongside the technical development, we are actively participating in national business presentations where we must defend the project's manufacturing feasibility, economic viability, and social impact.

4. Competition Mission :

This June, we are competing at the National Competition to defend our title as Moroccan National Champions. Our ultimate goal is to secure our ticket to represent our country at the upcoming Enactus World Cup in Brazil. This global stage evaluates teams not just on engineering capability, but on the tangible human impact and sustainability of their projects.

5. Technical Requirements :

To support the Katara device, we require high-quality PCB manufacturing and assembly for critical electronic systems that demand precision in remote, harsh environments. These include:

Cellular Data Transmission: The system utilizes a SIM800L cellular module to transmit data in areas without Wi-Fi. This requires a highly robust power delivery network on the PCB, utilizing high-capacity capacitors (2200uF) to handle the massive power spikes of cellular transmission without resetting the ESP32 microcontroller.

Environmental Data Acquisition: The board must seamlessly interface with an industrial 4-in-1 soil sensor to collect real-time agricultural data, requiring precise routing and reliable surface-mount assembly to ensure consistent data flow under demanding outdoor conditions.

6. Why PCBWay : Because Katara operates in remote agricultural environments, the reliability of the main carrier board is paramount. The precision of PCBWay’s automated SMT assembly, coupled with the flexibility to handle complex engineering adjustments , is exactly what we need to meet our strict competition deadlines. As a student-led social impact project, support from PCBWay is crucial to helping us scale this technology from a prototype into a deployed, life-changing tool.

7. Benefits to PCBWay :

Through this collaboration, PCBWay will gain valuable exposure by aligning with a high-impact humanitarian project on a global stage:

  • Brand Visibility: Prominent logo placement on our official Enactus National Championship banners and presentation materials this June.
  • Digital Exposure: Features across our professional networks (such as LinkedIn) documenting the engineering, manufacturing, and social impact of the PCBWay-supported Katara devices.
  • Association with Innovation & Impact: Direct alignment with a nationally recognized student engineering team actively working to solve real-world food waste and sustainability crises.

8. Conclusion :

We believe that a collaboration with PCBWay will be incredibly mutually beneficial. Your manufacturing expertise will enable us to finalize the Katara hardware for the National Competition, while we provide PCBWay with meaningful visibility on a massive platform. We are confident this partnership will champion both technical excellence and genuine social impact.
