Pioneer Racing Formula SAE

We are undergraduate students from the University of Wisconsin Platteville chapter of Society of Automotive Engineers - Formula. We compete with an open-wheel race car every year in Michigan, USA. Taking our project from nothing to final product by designing, manufacturing, and testing every part of our car. We are currently the best division 3 school in the United States, and compete against some of the most prestigious universities both nationally and internationally.

We pride ourselves on constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation and engineering performance while growing our team through strategic business operations! This makes us more capable, educated, and marketable to employers and industry as the whole, and satisfies our desire for hands-on experience outside the classroom!

Our team is split amongst many subsystems: suspension, aerodynamics, powertrain, and many more! One of our newest subsystems is our Low Voltage / Data Acquisition system, meant to aid with upgrading electronics, increasing car durability, and working with other subsystems to gather valuable design validation data! We create many custom PCBs for a variety of different parts. Including but not limited to, data acquisition systems, automotive power distribution boards, and sensor analyzers.

In addition to our current internal combustion car, we are also working to research and develop an electric vehicle for future competitions! The goal of this subsystem is to design and manufacture EV specific electrical systems for our team to have a smooth transition into the electric vehicle competition class for years to come. With custom battery management systems, incredibly strict safety systems, and a 6.3 kWh battery pack with over 80 kW of power comes lots of fresh design challenges! We are attacking each day with the hope to compete at our first EV competition by 2027 or 2028
