PS4 Portable PowerBoard (ESP32 Edition)
My name is Antonio Trezza, and I am developing one of the most advanced portable console engineering projects: a fully handheld system based on the PlayStation 4 Slim motherboard.
The heart of the system is a fully custom PCB that replaces the original PS4 power supply and integrates all essential electronics required for portable operation,
Including:
- 3S Lithium Battery Management System (BMS) integrated on-board
- USB-C Power Delivery fast charging with power-path management
- Multiple high-efficiency buck converters for all PS4 power rails
- PWM-controlled cooling fan for APU
- Comprehensive protection circuitry (OVP, UVP, OCP, thermal protection)
- Integrated ESP32-S3 System Controller
- Integrated audio amplifier supporting: two speakers, headphone output
An on-board ESP32-S3 module acts as the system’s intelligent controller, responsible for:
- PWM fan speed control with dynamic profiles
- Digital audio volume control (buttons → ESP32 → electronic volume adjustment)
- Battery percentage calculation and monitoring
- APU temperature monitoring for safe thermal management
This creates an intelligent, efficient and safe power and control system tailored for a portable PS4 Slim.
This project is a complete electrical redesign of the PS4 Slim for portable use — not just a cosmetic modification.
Similar PS4 handheld builds on YouTube have gained hundreds of thousands of views, demonstrating strong public interest in high-level engineering projects.
My build will feature:

- Custom Controls (Dualshock 4 to Handheld Controls)

- a full handheld gameplay demonstration
The entire process will be documented as a multi-episode YouTube series, marking the launch of my new engineering-focused channel.
