Oxford Brookes Racing - Formula Student

Oxford Brookes Racing is a team which is composed of over 600 students from a total of 28 nationalities who all work towards one goal. This goal is to build and race our Formula Student race car each year. Formula Student is an educational engineering and business focused event with over 80,000 members across 97 countries. Teams compete across a range of dynamic and static events in an effort to be awarded points which contribute to the overall competition results.

Since its inception in 1999 Oxford Brookes Racing has grown to become the UKs most successful team, winning top UK team at Formula Student UK on 8 separate occasions among other awards such as best EV powertrain in 2025.

In recent years we have begun our transformation to a completely electric powertrain moving away from internal combustion engines. Our new powertrain configuration consists of 4 outboard electric motors powered by a high voltage battery engineered by our own members. With this transformation came a series of engineering challenges, as we faced issues the team had never encountered. With each year that has passed since this initial jump to electric power the car has not only become faster but also more reliable this is proven by us completing our first full endurance event this year (2025)! We seek sponsorship from PCBWay to allow us to further develop our car from both a performance and reliability standpoint.

We are currently in the process of designing our challenger for 2026, this year our car is coming with big upgrades not only to the electrical system but also a large number of mechanical components.

With this sponsorship we are looking to manufacture PCBA electronics assemblies for the driver interface of our EV prototype. These in house designs include projects such as the steering wheel, dashboard systems and a driver display.

The dashboard features multiple buttons and high-visibility LEDs for status indication, while the steering wheel integrates rotaries and additional buttons to allow the driver to control vehicle parameters in real time.

The team would benefit greatly from PCBWay’s support. Support would help us overcome challenges we face each year with finding a dependable supplier which is also within our budget. The support would also provide more opportunity for members within the team to further develop their electrical knowledge through various new design capabilities.
