Oronos Polytechnique - FAME

Oronos Polytechnique Overview

Oronos Polytechnique is a student engineering design team. We design, build, and launch student-developed sounding rockets every year. Oronos' track records have included first place trophies at the IREC (Intercollegiate Rocketry Engineering Competition), the biggest international student rocketry competition, the successful development and flight of the first student made hybrid rocket engine in Quebec, and the successful launch of Philomenos & Ploutos, our two-stage rocket that reached over 67 000 feet during the 2025 Launch Canada Challenge setting a new Canadian altitude record for a student-built rocket.

Our avionics department is in charge of all electronic systems on-board the rockets, controlling the recovery and engine ignition events, acquiring flight data, and relaying real-time telemetry on the status of the rocket. We attach utmost importance to the safety, reliability, and robustness of these systems, most of which are critical to the successful flight of Oronos’ rockets.

Those high technical requirements require the use of advanced manufacturing methods and electronic components. For these reasons, we are looking for industry partners and support for printing our circuit boards. We would appreciate PCBWay's help in helping us reach new heights for this year's avionics, as we design new boards for our engine control system.

Our visibility in the local aerospace industry is non-negligible, and we also attend multiple competitions every year, showcasing several rockets with all our sponsor's logos, and could be including yours. Here is our sponsorship package, which outlines all the advantages of sponsoring our team.

FAME - Fluid Avionics Module Equipment

The FAME PCB is responsible for controlling valve actuators to control our hybrid and liquid rocket engines. The FAME also connects to pressure sensors and thermistors to get data from the engine. It is part of our fluid avionics system, and connects to our radio PCB by CANBUS. The FAME will be controlling the hybrid motor that will power the booster of our hybrid two-stage rocket that will fly at the Launch Canada competition, in the summer of 2026. This will be the first hybrid two-stage student built rocket in North America and the second ever in the world. The FAME will also control our liquid motor during our hot fire test also at the Launch Canada competition, which will be Oronos' first liquid rocket engine.

We solder the components in house, since we have the necessary equipment and years of expertise in the team. However, we need PCBWay's help to manufacture the printed circuit boards. It would help us greatly to be sponsored by PCBWay.
