MediTrack V1 – Portable Health Monitoring System

What is this project?

MediTrack V1 is a low-cost portable health monitoring device designed to help patients, doctors, and caregivers track vital signs in real-time.

The device continuously measures:

  • Heart Rate (BPM)
  • Blood Oxygen (SpO₂)
  • Body Temperature

It displays the results on an OLED screen and stores logs on an SD card for medical records. In emergencies, the system activates a buzzer and LED alert, warning the user or family members immediately

.

Unlike expensive medical monitors, MediTrack V1 is designed to be affordable, battery-powered, and portable, making it suitable for:

  • Rural healthcare centers
  • Elderly patients at home
  • Remote clinics with limited resources
  • Emergency field kits

Why this project?

Many developing regions and rural areas lack continuous health monitoring systems. Patients often travel long distances to hospitals just to get basic health check-ups. By using Arduino/ESP32 with medical sensors, this project brings monitoring directly to the patient’s home or community.

  • Affordable Alternative → Commercial pulse oximeters + monitors cost $50–$200. MediTrack V1 can be built for <$20 with PCB.
  • Portable → Fits in hand, runs on rechargeable battery.
  • Preventive Care → Alerts on low oxygen, high temperature, or irregular heartbeat can save lives.

How does it work?

The MAX30102 sensor shines infrared + red light through the finger to measure blood oxygen & heart rate.

The DS18B20 sensor measures patient body temperature digitally.

The ESP32/Arduino processes sensor data and displays it live on the OLED screen.

If readings are abnormal:

  • SpO₂ < 90% → Low oxygen alert
  • Temp > 38°C → Fever alert
  • Heart Rate > 120 BPM → Tachycardia alert
  • → Buzzer + LED turn ON immediately.
  • All data is stored on SD card for doctor review.
  • With ESP32, optional Wi-Fi/Bluetooth can send readings to a mobile app or cloud for remote health monitoring.

Bill of Materials (BOM)

  • ESP32 Dev Board / Arduino UNO (x1) – Main microcontroller
  • MAX30102 Pulse Oximeter & Heart Rate Sensor (x1) – Measures SpO₂ and BPM
  • DS18B20 Temperature Sensor (x1) – Measures body temperature
  • 0.96” OLED Display (I²C) (x1) – Displays live results
  • Micro SD Card Module (x1) – Data logging
  • Buzzer (x1) + LED (x1) – Alerts for abnormal vitals
  • TP4056 Charging Module (x1) – Recharges battery via USB
  • Li-ion Battery (18650 or flat cell) (x1) – Portable power
  • PCB (Custom design) (x1) – Integrates all components

My Idea and Vision

  • To design a dedicated PCB where all sensors & modules fit neatly, avoiding messy wires.
  • To make it battery-powered with charging built-in, so farmers, villagers, and elderly can carry it.
  • To provide step-by-step open-source design so others can replicate and improve.
  • To build a second version later with cloud integration + AI-based anomaly detection.

Real-World Impact

  • For patients at home → Peace of mind and early alerts.
  • For doctors → Continuous data logging for accurate diagnosis.
  • For rural clinics → Affordable monitoring tool.
  • For PCBWay → Showcasing how open hardware + PCBs can save lives and improve healthcare globally.

The MediTrack V1 is more than just a prototype – it is a lifesaving companion for patients and caregivers. By combining Arduino-based IoT technology with vital sign monitoring, the device ensures continuous health tracking that can be deployed in clinics, rural healthcare centers, and even at home.

Unlike traditional monitoring systems, MediTrack V1 focuses on affordability, portability, and reliability, making it accessible to communities with limited resources. With features like heart rate monitoring, temperature sensing, emergency alerts, and SD card health logging, it provides both real-time safety and long-term health data insights.

The design follows a modular, open-source philosophy, encouraging further development by students, researchers, and innovators in the medical IoT space. Future expansions include Bluetooth/WiFi cloud integration, AI-driven health anomaly detection, and solar-powered operation for deployment in rural areas.

By integrating low-cost hardware with smart design, MediTrack V1 has the potential to bridge the gap between technology and healthcare, ultimately empowering doctors, caregivers, and patients with tools that truly matter.
