McMaster Electric Motorbike Racing Team
Who we are
We're a group of engineering students at McMaster University working to establish an electric motorcycle racing team, with the long-term goal of competing in MotoStudent, an international student engineering competition focused on designing and building electric racing motorcycles.
Our goal
We're currently laying the foundations for the team, developing our technical roadmap, recruiting students, and working toward our first prototypes. Our plans include developing an electric powertrain and its supporting electronics, with a focus on battery management, motor control, sensor integration, and communication between embedded systems
As we develop the motorcycle, custom printed circuit boards will be an important part of integrating our electronics into a reliable and functional system. We're particularly interested in PCB applications involving battery monitoring, CAN bus communication, sensor interfaces, and embedded control.
We're aiming to compete in a local competition in 2027 while building the team's technical capabilities and working toward MotoStudent in 2028. As a new student team, we're excited to build something meaningful at McMaster and give our members hands-on experience designing, manufacturing, and integrating electronics into a complete electric vehicle.
What we're asking for
We came across PCBWay through your previous sponsorship of the University of Sherbrooke's EMUS electric motorcycle project, particularly their custom battery management system PCB. Seeing your support for a student team working toward MotoStudent was one of the reasons we wanted to reach out.
We'd like to ask for PCB fabrication and assembly for our first prototype boards:
- A battery management board that monitors cell voltages and temperatures and drives a hard-wired fault output
- A vehicle controller board for throttle handling, CAN communication and data logging
We'd be grateful for the opportunity to receive PCBWay sponsorship as we develop our first prototypes and work toward competing in MotoStudent.
We'd also be happy to document our designs and share our progress, challenges, and lessons learned with the PCBWay community.
