Hypersonic Racing F1 in Schools Team

Who Are We:

Coming from Tanglin Trust School, a British International School based in Singapore, our team, ranging from grades 9-13 came together to create an F1 in Schools team that would incorporate elements of both speed and environmental sustainability.

We aim to create the fastest F1 in Schools car, while still being as sustainable as possible, using as many renewable or recyclable materials, and environmentally friendly manufacturing techniques as possible.

We recently won 1st Place and Fastest Car at a national competition, and we’re now preparing to compete in the Nationals, and potentially World Finals round.

What is F1 in Schools:

F1 in Schools the only global multi-disciplinary challenge in which teams of students aged 9 to 19 deploy CAD/CAM software to collaborate, design, analyze, manufacture, test, and then race miniature compressed air powered cars made from F1 model block.

It is a unique global platform for the promotion of Formula 1 and partners to a youth market.

Teams must raise sponsorship and manage budgets to fund research, travel and accommodation.

The challenge inspires students to use IT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, branding, graphics, sponsorship, marketing, leadership/teamwork, media skills and financial strategy, and apply them in a practical, imaginative, competitive and exciting way.

Our Team

Team Hypersonic currently has three full time members, each with a specific role and responsibility to fulfill

Team Manager:

Charles Cheung

As the Team Head, I oversee the process of designing, manufacturing, and testing of the car as a team. The vast majority of my work involves designing the body of the car, working closely in collaboration with the rest of the Design Team as well as the Test engineers in order to design the most efficient and optimized car body using CAD software and testing in CFD.

Marketing and Sponsorships:

Dhruv Khurana

My role is to gather sponsors, by reaching out to them and emailing them, as well as negotiating with potential sponsors and communicating with them regularly so that we get the best deal.

I also manage our social media, to promote our team to as many people as possible.

Manufacturing Engineer:

Daniel Scott

As the Head of Manufacturing, I am responsible for producing the car and its components. This includes things such as the front and rear wing and possibly the wheels. I am in charge of using our CNC machine to cut the foam blocks down to the car’s body and using the 3D printers to produce our front and rear wings. I am also in charge of making sure that everything is manufactured on time and that the quality of everything is up to standard.
