Hornets Stem Racing Team Car

Stem Racing is a globally recognised competition designed to encourage students aged 11-19 to develop their skills and interests in the STEM field. The competition requires students to design and manufacture a small CO2 powered F1 style car, as well as creating portfolios and a pit display. It also requires students to develop their communication skills through gathering sponsorships, creating marketing strategies and a verbal presentation on the day of competition.

Our team has been competing in this competition since 2022 (4 Years Ago!) and we've dreamed of making it to the world finals ever since. We’ve had varied experience and success during these past years, such as making the fastest car during our first ever competition, this year we believe our team is better and more prepared than ever and we believe that we have a chance of making it big.

With the help of PCB way we hope to be able to manufacture our wheels to be as light, strong and as little rolling friction as possible in order to reduce the energy we loose from the power unit. we are attempting to do this using 2 methods:-

  1. Careful design to ensure as little weight is used without compromising integrity
  2. use a low friction material that's still strong such as PEEK (poly ether ether ketone)

we believe that our wheel design as well as our streamlined body is enough to bring home the fastest car this February.

Below I've attached many screenshots of our car prototypes to show how far our design process has come in the last 5 months

these models were created along the course of 5 months across 14 different prototypes, you can really see how our design process changed throughout that time
