Formula Student Driverless

The Formula Student is an  international student design competition that was launched in 1981 by  the "Society of Automotive Engineers" (SAE) in the USA and has been  carried out in Europe since 1998. The international competitions take place in loose order on racetracks in Europe, the USA and Asia. Each team decides individually which competitions it wants to participate in. The  most famous competition is the Formula Student Germany in Hockenheim,  because the most successful teams from all nations of the world compete  against each other.

The Formula Student Driverless (FSD) will take place from 08th to 13th  August 2017 for the first time as part of the Formula Student Germany  at the Hockenheimring.
The new, future-oriented competition confronts the students with a new challenge. It is necessary to develop a racing car, which runs in the autonomous mode without driver or driver in manual mode.

Similar  to the existing Formula Student Combustion (FSC) and Formula Student  Electric (FSE) competitions, the FSD is divided into static and dynamic  events. The  point distribution is compensated for the first time (500: 500 points)  due to the additional static event Autonomous Design. In the dynamic events, the Trackdrive replaces the classic disciplines Autocross and Endurance. The vehicle must complete 10 laps independently on the trackdrive, with each round being scored with ten points. In addition, the lap times are measured and included in the score. The other dynamic disciplines Acceleration and Skidpad must also cope with the racing car also automated.

We are the Driverless Team of the Greenteam University Stuttgart and we will compete this year in the new driverless competition with our completly self-developed racecar against other teams.

We use cameras and other sensors to detect the cones on the track.

To build a fully autonomous racecar many sensors and controllers needed. We develop and build all of our controllers by ourself so we can minimize weight and size. We use over 20 self developed PCBs in our racecar.
