Formula Kentucky Can Hub Board

About the Team

Formula Kentucky is the University of Kentucky's Formula SAE team. It is a student organization in which students design, build, and race their vehicles against other university teams. By being on the team, students are able to gain hands-on experience with engineering design and manufacturing. The team also engage in various outreach throughout the Bluegrass community to promote and encourage education in STEM related fields. Currently, the team is preparing its vehicle for FSAE Michigan 2021. The team will compete in a variety of events to gain points based on vehicle design, cost, and performance.

CAN Hub Project

For the 2021 competition year, Formula Kentucky’s electronics subsystem is designing a CAN bus to cleanly relay CAN messages to the car’s data logger. The CAN bus has a multitude of CAN devices connected (such as miscellaneous sensors like an oil pressure sensor) which all need to be connected to our data-logger. The designed board is a hub for the CAN bus. The hub contains paths for two signals CAN High and CAN Low as well as power and ground. Four sensor modules can connect to the hub and, thus, are added to the bus with an additional connection for power and ground.
