Caltech Racing

Caltech Racing is a club on campus made up of over 50 engineers spanning many disciplines who work together to design, assemble, and test an electric racecar to compete in the Formula SAE Electric competition. Our club provides hands on experience which is unique from other projects in that no task is completely independent. Collaboration is key, and our club fosters a collaborative environment between students from the electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science departments.

Over the first four years of the club's existence, Caltech Racing has exceeded expectations of what a young Formula SAE club can achieve. After attending competition this past summer the team has decided to only redesign the subsystems of the racecar that either did not function as originally intended or did not satisfy the technical requirements. The club's primary goal is to have our car fully functioning by the end of the winter term to allow for testing and tuning throughout all of the spring term leading up to the competition. With this in mind, our next goal is to pass the rigorous technical inspection, of which, has had a historically low passing rate. Lastly, after accomplishing this, we look to obtain a deep understanding of our designs and translate this information to the younger members of the club who will ultimately lead the club in the future.
