Aerodesign Challenge

Team Spars is the official SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Aero Design team of SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai. The team comprises of a group of enthusiastic students from various branches of engineering namely Mechanical, Mechatronics, Aerospace etc. Our principle goal is to design, fabricate and analyze an aircraft which is capable of performing all the tasks given during competitions.

The team has been successfully operational for the last 3 years and has been taking part in two competitions namely - SAE AERO DESIGN conducted by SAE International and SAE INDIA Southern Section.

The Annual Competition of SAE International for 2018-2019 academic year was held at Van Nuys, California, USA. Our team rankings were as follows:

1.Advance Class- 15^th in Overall Performance,

                               3^rd in Technical Design Report

Continental rank- 4^th in Technical Presentation

2. Micro Class - 14^th in Overall Performance

Continental rank- 4^th in Technical Presentation

The team also achieved 2^nd position for Innovation on a national level at SAE India 2019.

In the previous seasons the team has also received recognition for their micro class aircraft like – unique container, efficient control surface and best airfoil design.

1. SAE Aero Design West – California, USA - Advance

2. SAE India – Chennai, India- Micro class



Team Spars is a Non-profit student organization and to achieve maximum results, we hope that your esteemed firm can consider associating and helping the team in achieving the goals for our next year’s campaign. We will be delighted to assist your firm in any manner possible on both international and national platforms, social media and during our college fests.
