Custom ADS1256 board with ATmega32U4
I created my own ADS1256 PCB after working with this AD converter for several years. I wanted to build a simple board for this ADC that allows me to fully utilize the power of it. I added an ATmega32u4 microcontroller (MCU) circuit to the PCB, so the whole circuit is an ADC+MCU system. All the pins of the microcontroller can be used, so the board can be used as a really versatile device. The MCU has native USB, so it is really easy to use it with computers. I also made sure to add a rugged and easy to use 2x8 screw terminal as the input for the AD converter. This allows the user to comfortably use the device both in single-ended and differential mode.
Please consider the following things before deciding to order the PCB:
- The ATmega32u4 microcontroller and the ADS1256 ADC chips are hard to get due to the chip shortage
- All passives are 0603 size except the 100R ferrite bead which is 0805.
- The Y1 crystal is a 2-pin 5032 SMD crystal
- The Y2 crystal is a HC49-SD type crystal
