PCB for Hexagon DNA Lamp and other Projects that utilize up to four filament LED strains
This PCB can be used for any DIY-light-projects that utilize up to four LED filament strains or other LEDs that run on around 3 Volts. Many components are optional (like the status LED). However it was designed for a 3D-Printed DNA with a hexagonal base to house the PCB. Detailed instructions as well as more pictures can be found at my printables project here: https://www.printables.com/model/1434750-hexagon-dna-lamp
The KiCad and gerber files can be also obtained from my corresponding github-repo: https://github.com/zeus86/hexagon-dna-pcb
It makes no sense to try to order this one as a "kit", just get the PCB. Most parts totally depend on your custom configuration so there is no "one size fits all".
When Using USB-C as Input-Power, make sure to get Breakout-boards with resistors on the usb-datalines. otherwise many modern usb-c-powersupplys won't output regular 5v (especially USB-C-PD powersupplys).
The PCB is totally beginner friendly and only uses throughhole components. The filament LEDs however can be a little bit tricky to solder. I absolutely recomment to reinforce the solder-joints with heatshrink, epoxy-resin, hotglue or similar, as the soldering tabs on those can be fragile. Also use a lot of flux on the LEDs, it gives much better results and is far easier to solder.
the PCB is designed to be as flexible as possible. you can use a DC-DC-Stepdown, you can use a constant current driver, you can use up to four independant strains, you can use up to two resistors per strain, you can use a status LED, or all of them at once. Also you can shorten some pins if you don't need some of those. the dc-dc-stepdown and the constant-current-driver also have a solder-jumper to tie typical enable pins to either high or low if needed (depends on your specific choice).
Have fun building your own DNA (or other light projects).
