Microphone preamp with filtered power supply
No pick&place file / BOM
Different microphones, sound cards, power supplies have differen specifications. These values are just what I used WITH MY MICROPHONE, you need to figure out correct/good values, if you want to replicate this.
What?
This project is currently being tested, it will be determined later whether this is success or fail.
This is a microphone preamplifier with filtered power supply. Amplifier part is made using small low voltage, rail-to-rail opamp and power supply filtering is done using something called "capacitor multiplier".
Why?
I've had USB microphone with sturdy metal body and decently sized microphone element. I didn't like the sound quality. Better preamp and cleaner power supply was designed to hopefully improve the sound quality. Check the video at 6:05 to hear the comparison.
Component sizes and values?
First things first: I have used ceramic capacitor for audio signals. This is usually frowned upon, because they aren't "stable" enough for HiFi applications. This may or may not cause problems.
AD8603 opamp comes in SOT23-5 package, all the resistors and capacitors are 0603 size and pads for input, output and microphone have 0.01" / 2.54mm spacing.
Component values specified in schematic image are selected for the exact microphone I have. Capacitor multiplier's resistor should be much lower, if used transistor doesn't have as high current gain as BC850C (about 500).
