TinyRemote is a compact and ultra-low-power infrared (IR) remote control built around the CH32V003, a cost-effective 32-bit RISC-V microcontroller. It features a minimalist 5-button layout and is powered by a CR2032 or LIR2032 coin cell battery, offering months of battery life due to the microcontroller’s efficient power management. The device transmits standard 38kHz IR signals and is compatible with common IR receivers, making it ideal for controlling smart TVs, Arduino-based projects, or smart home systems.

The hardware consists of the CH32V003 MCU, five tactile push buttons connected to GPIO pins, and an IR LED that is driven directly by a GPIO or through a transistor for higher current output. The circuit board is ultra-compact and designed for handheld use. When idle, the MCU enters deep sleep mode, consuming minimal power, and wakes up via interrupt when a button is pressed. The firmware, written in C and available on GitHub, allows for easy customization of the button codes and IR protocols. Development can be performed using a WCH-LinkE debugger or via the built-in UART bootloader. This project is fully open-source and ideal for hobbyists looking to explore RISC-V microcontrollers or build custom remote control systems.
