Automotive‑Grade LED Matrix Brake Light
Our Formula Student brake light is built around a 6×5 high‑intensity LED array on a single PCB, each row of five LEDs driven in series through a 470 Ω current‑limiting resistor. All six strings share a common +18 V input and are switched to ground by a logic‑level MOSFET (BSS138), giving crisp, uniform illumination the moment you hit the brakes.
Robust Power‑Rail Protection
Upstream protection includes a 200 mA inline fuse and a 30 V TVS diode to clamp automotive transients and load dumps. On‑board decoupling (100 µF caps) and a TO‑252 linear regulator ensure stable voltage for any auxiliary control electronics.
Race‑Ready PCB Layout & Mounting
The compact 2‑layer PCB features four reinforced mounting holes, an automotive‑grade D‑sub 4‑pin connector footprint for “SIG_BRAKE” input and ground, plus automotive‑spec silkscreen and solder mask. Designed to fit directly into a water‑tight (IP67) housing, it stands up to vibration, dust and moisture on track.
