Atari GTIA Ground Plane
Atari 8-bit computers, including models like the 400, 800, and XE series, were produced in the 1970s and 1980s. While many enthusiasts still use them for gaming and expansions today, newer models face stability issues due to cost-cutting in the design, particularly the lack of a ground plane, which makes them more prone to interference. This interference can affect screen quality, especially on Atari XE models. Specialized sockets have been developed to add a ground plane and address these stability problems.
GTIA Ground Plane board has additional extra connections:
- +5V Power input
- COLOR output on the left side (could be useful for connection UAV or SpectreAV)
- BELL output - It might be needed to connect a sound card, such as PokeyMax or TK II Stereo.
On the board, there are three decoupling capacitors. You can use 3x 100nF, but you can also use 100nF, 10nF, and 47nF.
The PCB has four layers, and the recommended PCB thickness is 0.8mm.
