Ankle Band
I created this because I noticed a huge gap in how we monitor movement in both medical rehab and gymnastics. Therapists were relying on visual observation and patient self-reports, which aren't reliable, while gymnasts had no way to get objective feedback on their jumps during training. My solution utilizes a BMI270 IMU and pressure sensors in a coin cell-powered ankle band that can operate continuously for 1.7 years, capturing precise jump metrics and movement patterns. The BMI270 tracks acceleration and rotation data to detect jumps and analyze movement quality, while the pressure sensor connectors allow me to attach external sensors for ground reaction force measurements, all transmitted wirelessly through the DA14531 Bluetooth module to mobile devices. What I'm most proud of is the ultra-low power design that makes this actually practical. Patients and athletes can wear it continuously without worrying about charging, giving doctors objective data for rehabilitation progress, and gymnasts real-time performance feedback that was previously impossible to get outside expensive lab settings.
