AiO RPi HAT (IMU, Barometer, GPS, Servo Controller, Environmental Sensor, LoRa)
This project is an all-in-one sensor HAT designed for the Raspberry Pi, packing every essential sensor and controller you’d need for robotics, drones, and advanced IoT projects into the compact footprint of a Pi Zero. The board features a BNO086 IMU for full 9-axis motion tracking, a BMP581 barometer for accurate altitude and pressure readings, and a BME680 sensor for monitoring environmental conditions like humidity, temperature, and pressure. For robotics control, it includes a PCA9685 servo driver that can independently manage up to ten servos via precise PWM output. Navigation and positioning are handled by a high-performance NEO-M9N-00B GPS module, which even has a rechargeable backup battery to retain settings and speed up satellite lock times. To support remote communication or telemetry, there’s a reserved UART pin header for a LoRa module, such as the RYLR998, and I2C headers for further sensor expansion.
I created this board because I was frustrated with the hassle and cable mess of connecting multiple breakout boards when building robotics projects with a Raspberry Pi. Off-the-shelf solutions were bulky or didn’t offer the complete set of sensors I needed. My goal was to design a HAT that could be dropped straight onto any Raspberry Pi (Zero, 4, or 5), providing a true plug-and-play experience with robust, professional-grade sensors and motor control all in a single compact board. The result is a HAT that dramatically simplifies prototyping and deployment, eliminating wire clutter and compatibility headaches.
All sensors and the servo driver communicate over I2C, while the GPS and LoRa modules use UART for fast and reliable data transmission. Sample Python code makes it easy to log sensor data and drive servos in real time. Whether you’re building a drone, autonomous robot, weather station, or any sensor-driven IoT project, this HAT gives you a powerful, all-in-one solution that saves time, space, and frustration.
