Ethernet Hub Board for Rover Navigation and Wireless Communication Systems
This project is an Ethernet hub board designed to serve as the central wired communication backbone of a robotic rover system.
The board provides multiple Ethernet connections to support navigation, communication, and vision subsystems, ensuring stable and high-speed data exchange in electrically noisy and mobile environments where wireless-only communication is unreliable.
System Integration:
The Ethernet hub board is designed to interface with several external devices used in the rover system, including:
- Ubiquiti AirMax Rocket M2 base station, used for long-range wireless communication between the rover and the ground station
- Hikvision IP cameras (H.265 / H.265+), used for real-time video streaming and visual feedback during navigation and monitoring
By aggregating these devices through a wired Ethernet backbone, the board improves: Communication reliability, Network organization, Signal integrity and Overall system robustness.
Ethernet was selected as the primary communication medium due to its: High bandwidth, Noise immunity and Deterministic performance.
These characteristics are essential for autonomous and remotely operated rover platforms that rely on continuous data flow from cameras, navigation units, and communication modules.
Team Contribution:
This board was developed by the Hardware Sub team of Mind Cloud Team as part of a multi-board rover electronics system.
