ESP-LED-01 Audio-Reactive WLED Controller with ESP32-S3 Supermini
ESP-LED-01 Audio-Reactive WLED Controller with ESP32-S3 Supermini
⚠️ Please note there is already a version 2 of this project, which includes multiple improvements. We recommend using the v2, unless you want a more minimal board then you can stick with the v1. You can find the board and detailed instructions of ESP-LED-02 here. ⚠️
This project is a custom-designed WLED controller based on the powerful ESP32-S3 SuperMini, created specifically for sound-reactive and auto-brightness LED applications.

Features
- The controller features an IMP441 digital MEMS microphone connected via I2S, offering excellent sound sensitivity and noise resistance — perfect for responsive, real-time LED effects.
- A dedicated JST connector is included for the light sensor, allowing the sensor to be positioned away from the controller for more accurate ambient light detection and better brightness control.
- The board also includes a 74AHCT125N level shifter to convert the ESP32’s 3.3V data output to 5V, ensuring stable operation even with longer LED strips.
- To protect your setup, a reverse voltage protection diode rated up to 5A has been integrated, along with a large electrolytic capacitor to help manage inrush currents when powering large numbers of LEDs.
- The design includes terminal blocks for clean, secure power and LED connections.
Additionally, the ESP32-S3 SuperMini and the IMP441 microphone are mounted via female header sockets, making it easy to replace, upgrade, or reprogram components without any soldering work. However, for permanent installations, direct soldering is fully supported.

This controller is ideal for anyone who wants a professional-grade, expandable Sound-reactive WLED setup.
