AQUABOX: Portable and sustainable laundry
AquaBox, a self-contained laundry system inside a container, designed to bring hygiene and sustainability to low-income communities with poor electrical or sanitation infrastructure. An affordable, automated, and energy-independent service.
It is a container that transports ready-to-use domestic washing machines and that operates with a plug-and-play system: it only requires water to operate.
Thanks to integrated solar panels and batteries, it is 100% independent of the electrical grid, allowing it to be installed in areas with little or no infrastructure.
The system is fully automated with a microcontroller. The user only needs to insert a coin into the coin acceptor to activate the wash.
This device has been programmed to recognize specific coins and send an electrical signal that initiates the wash process.
The coin selector sends a pulse to the microcontroller (Arduino Nano), which identifies the amount in euros entered. When it reaches the programmed limit (e.g., 4 euros), it activates a relay that drives a universal motor (simulating the start-up of a washing machine).
