It is a small PCB with an ESP12S on it and a DS18B20 temperature sensor. Every 1-5 minutes you can select that in the source code it will send the room temperature and the voltage of the 18650 Li-Ion cell to ubidots.com. Here is a diagram of temperature and voltage and of course the real time temperature. After it has send the data to ubidots.com it will go into deep sleep mode with around 23uA. So the project should last at least 30 days without battery replacement.

My first ever instructable was a 4x4x4 LED Cube using glass PCBs. Normally, I do not like to do the same project twice but recently I came across this video of french maker Heliox which inspired me to make a bigger version of my original cube. In her video Heliox comes up with a much simpler process to manufacture glass PCBs that does not involve etching but instead she uses a plotter to cut the traces from a self-adhesive copper foil which is then transferred to a glass substrate. Since plotters are not that expensive and could also come in handy for other projects I just got one to try the process for myself.Apart from being a bigger version of my original cube this version also uses a custom PCB based on a SAMD21 microcontroller and a housing made from lasercut acrylic. The cube can be programmed with the Arduino IDE and is also compatible with CircuitPython.

We are the BlackBox 2 Team from the city university of applied sciences Bremen, Germany and part of the REXUS27 mission of the DLR and SNSA sounding rocket experiment. We are schedules to launch our experiment of the REXUS27 from Esrange, Sweden in March 2020.Our aim is to build a generic crash-safe flight data recorder for the use in sounding rockets. The flight data recorder offers the ability to store data in real-time at a data-rates of up to 1Gbit/s using Ethernet. Up to 64GB of data can be stored during a mission offering large amounts of data storage for video, photo and further high data rate experiment data. The flight recorder consists of a redundant dual computer and storage solution to ensure safe data storage. As well as an internal battery pack and 4 radio modems to allow localization after an incident. The flight recorder is housed inside a crash-absorbing casing to allow operation even after large forces occur against the flight recorder The flight recorder's postion is found using a GNSS modem. This information is then sent through a redundant satellite communition system via the Irdidium and Globalstar satellite systems as well as VHF Transmitter to allow the later recovery.To simulate use-case of the flight recorder, the experiment is housed in the nose-cone of the REXUS27 rocket and is ejected at aprox. 55Km. Prior to launch and during the flight data is already being stored from internal sensors (temperature, pressure and IMU) as well as from a place-holder rocket on-board computer to generation large amounts of data. This includes secondary sensors data as well as a high-resolution video stream from inside the nose-cone. Shortly before ejection the video stream begins storing to capture the full ejection of the nose-cone from the rocket. After ejection the experiment will continue storing sensor data and video during free-fall. Shortly before impact the radio modems begin operation and transmits the location of the experiment to our ground station. A set of redundant antennas ensure that the experiment's location can be determined and transmitted regardless of the orientation of the nose-cone after impact. The internal battery allows the location to be constantly transmitted for many hours after impact to allow the recovery team to locate the experiment and bring it back safely to the launch site.and identical model of our fight recorder will also launch on a student built sounding rocket, the AquasonicII, also launch in March, 2020.Due to the complexity involved and large number of PCBs are required to accommodate all our electronics. The output current can be measured by using the correspondig output of the Infineon high side switches. This way the controller can detect faulty or not properly connected fuses.The high side switches are controlled by a shift register and the feedback current is measoured one by one trough an analog multiplexer.

Due to the nature of motorsports, we have lot of design constraints, such as size, robustness against vibration and heat, and of course cost. We design our circuits using CircuitMaker, the community edition of Altium Designer. These designs are available to the public through CircuitMaker community vault.Power Distribution ModuleRacing cars have many electrical sensors and actuators that have to be controlled and supplied with power. For example cooling fans, pumps, active aerodynamics servos, ignition plugs and braking lights consume lots of energy, which has to supplied from the battery. In order to protect the components and the wiring harness, the currents have to be limited and switched when needed. Traditionally this is done using fuses and relays, but they have many disadvantages, such weight and inability to control the current consumption. The solid-state power distribution module with smart high-side drivers can switch the channels off in case of overheating or other faults, while constantly monitoring the current consumption of the components, allowing better data acquisition, easier fault detection and more precise adjustment of the battery capacity.The circuit consists of ST high-side switches and an ARM Cortex-M4 based microcontroller, as well as a Würth buck converter and a CAN transciever to transmit the measurement results to the data logger. It is approximately 15x10 cm of size and uses an automotive-grade sealed connector. The enclosure will also be built in-house.Brake System Plausibility DeviceBSPD is a circuit that has to be included into the vehicle according to regulation. It compares the brake pressure and the throttle valve position to identify a faulty condition, where the throttle is stuck open and the driver is braking hard. In case of such an inplausibility, the circuits switches the shutdown circuit, which cuts the power to ignition and the fuel pump after 500 ms. Furthermore according to regulation, this functionality has to be realized without a programmable circuit, i.e. only linear and logic integrated circuits are employed in the design.ConclusionSince we are a non-profit student organisation, we are dependent on our supporters and sponsors to achieve our goals. Who we are and project "Formula Student"We are a Formula Student Team called "Elefant Racing Bayreuth" and we are building an electric racecar each year. This project would not be possible without sponsors though.Let me introduce you to Formula Student (if you haven't heard of it already). By definition, it's a student design competition for students where each team's goal is to build a race car. These vehicles are made by a lot of other teams from around the world and we compete against each other in several events at the end of each season. Formula Student is not just about winning at these events though, it's more about being able to work as a team and being able to build a racecar in under a year from scratch (excluding gathered knowledge and lessons learned).We are currently at the beginning of a new season and start with design and concept evaluation. Once we are done construction time begins where we design PCBs and make CAD models. The next step is manufacturing. Some components are sponsored by companies (dampers e.g.) and others are self-manufactured (carbon fiber monocoque).After assembly our racecar we are using our test track intensively to adjust and tune our vehicle. The last (and most fun and thrilling) thing of a season is competing at events.One part of events are dynamic (longitudinal and latitudinal acceleration, fast lap, long distance) and the other part rea statically (concept evaluation, cost report, business plan). Due to these different competitions, it isn't necessary to build the fastest car but to have innovative ideas, clever designs, and a solid implementation of our concepts.This happens throughout a year and we are collecting knowledge and experience with which we are able to improve from season to season.FR18 - our latest carA more technical look at the FR19 (our car)The FR19 will be a four-wheel driven vehicle powered by four self-developed wheel hub motors, each with a maximum power of about 35 kW. The power comes from our accumulator which should pack about 7 kWh and a bit under 600V maximum voltage.The up-rights have to withstand more forces than before and do not only need to have enough space for the motors but also for our self developed planetary gear set. These units are attached to our carbon fiber monocoque chassis which should weigh less than 20 kg.There are some other major things to consider like packaging, cooling and added forces on suspension, caused by wheel hub motors.New opportunities come along as well like torque vectoring and thus being a lot faster than a rear wheel powered car or being able to recuperate more energy.As we are working with a high voltage accumulator special safety features are required. For example, there are three shutdown buttons, a crash sensor, a battery management system (monitors voltage and temperature of the accumulator) and more to ensure safety for our drivers.As a board computer, we use a Raspberry Pi in combination with a self developed PCB with an ARM processor which functions as a co-control unit and increases safety by redundancy.Apart from that, we have a lot of other PCBs which are mostly designed by us.BMS-MasterThis PCB receives all cell voltages and temperature via ISO-SPI and checks if those values are ok.BMS SlavesThese PCBs are mounted on top of each cell pack in the accumulator and measure voltage and temperature of each cell. Then they send their information via ISO-SPI to the BMS-MasterCCUThe co-processing control unit (featuring an ARM processor) helps the Raspberry Pi by doing certain tasks and is designed so that it can be simply stacked on top of the GPIO pins of the Raspi. Both can restart each other if one fails.Safety CircuitAs the name suggests this PCB is checking if it is safe to draw current from the accumulator by checking signals from BMS-Master, IMD (insulation monitoring device), ECU (Raspi + CCU) and some other sources. It controls the so-called TSAL (tractive system active light) which has to be flashing red if the tractive system is active.Sensor NodesThese PCBs are made so that you can plug in a variety of sensors, read their values and send those via CAN to the onboard computer.And more We use many PCBs more that are mainly used to ensure driver's safety.EBox - some of our last car's PCBsWhy your support is important to usAs I already mentioned at the beginning we could not build a race car without our sponsors. A multitude of (structurally and functionally) identical devices communicate via the exchange of sound waves. The exchanged frequencies are stored in the devices’ databases and represented by the composition of a multicolor LED. BehaviorOnce the database is full (or, from the onset on, with respect to the running program), the modules start to check the existence of the incoming data in their database, so that either a positive reaction (repeat the same frequency subsequently) or a negative reaction (respond the closest known frequency) is induced.By the mere arrangement of the modules, the dynamics of different constellations can be investigated. Distances of neighboring modules, sound amplitudes and the sensitivity of the microphones are crucial for signal transmission. Hi, I am Matthias from Germany. I've been dealing with electronic circuits and microcontroller projects privately for more than ten years now, including e.g. the development and realization of all components necessary to get MIDI signals out of an old organ. Up to date, I etched my PCBs manually all the time, it worked and was enough.Now to my project. My daughter, 5 years, suffers from a neurological dysfunction (from birth on) called cerebral palsy. Her main problem is that she has no proper feeling for balance, so she cannot sit, stand, walk without falling and she must be carried manually everywhere. There is neither a cure nor a good treatment. Several months ago, in a TV show, I saw an interesting approach for restoring balance using so-called biofeedback. They used an accelerometer to measure whether the person was in balance. If not, electrostimulation was applied. After a quick research, it turned out that indeed there have been several university research projects on this approach, but there is not a single device on the market that you can actually buy.Therefore, I started to work on a portable, battery-driven device which does exactly this - measure the current balance position at up to four positions. Whenever my daughter tends to fall to the front or one side, soft electric pulses are applied at exactly that direction where she tends to fall so she knows "aha, I have to correct my position".I have just finished working on the very first prototype (I have no photos yet, because it still looks too "hacky", but a photo will come soon). It is again a manually-etched, one-layer PCB, it uses a Microchip PIC µC, several step-up converters, opamps and more analog components. Yet, the prototype doesn't feature fancy things like battery charging. And because of the manual process, its footprint is too large for a portable device (16cm x 6cm PCB, excluding batteries). BUT - it is a great help for my daughter (well, it is a long learning process for her, but she is eager to do so).I'd like to go for a second revision of that device, including a Li-Polymer battery, AC adapter and charging circuit. And it must be much smaller. This can only be done by a professionally-built PCB and this is why I apply for a free PCB.

Hey there! I'm Daniel, an 18 year old from Germany that enjoys developing 3d printers. A few years ago I got into FDM printing, got my first kit and after a while I decided to make my own, better FDM printer. After months of planning, everything worked out well and after finishing that printer, I sold it. I wanted a bigger challenge. The result is the LUX SLA printer. Based off the abandoned 'OpenExposer' mechanism I designed the entire machine from scratch, including all electronics, software and mechanical aspects. Considering that this is a PCB manufacturer, I won't go too much into how the printer actually does things. Simply imagine a normal laser printer, but with a UV laser, and three instead of one axes. The board I am showcasing in this post is a stepper motor driver using the TMC2130 made by Trinamic. It features several awesome functions which enable sensorless homing aswell as incredibly quiet movements. The board is supposed to be a module which can be soldered easily by anyone, which means not only will it be used by my 3d printer controller, but also by anyone curious for other projects involving stepper motors.3D render of the stepper driverI plan to release all sources too, so anyone can contribute, improve or adjust the current design to his own needs. As anyone reading this can probably remember, funds are very limited when just starting out in the adult world (as I still go to school 1 week each month).
