We are group of students from a wide variety of degree programs at the Ulm University of Applied Sceinces, Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences, and Ulm University, and we are passionately working together toward a common goal: developing a race car for the international Formula Student engineering competition.

But this is about more than just a "fast car." It's about getting better, learning from mistakes, and putting what we've learned in our studies directly into practice, directly in line with our motto: “become professional.”

In addition to the technical development of the race car, soft skills such as teamwork, organization, and marketing also play a crucial role in achieving success together. Developing, designing, and manufacturing a fully functional electric autonomous race car entirely on our own, during our studies is a demanding task. Nevertheless, every year we take on this challenge with the utmost commitment and enthusiasm. The price is high, but the reward is even higher. We are the Formula Student Team at Ulm University of Technology.

Last year, we achieved an overall victory with our AL25 vehicle at the event in France. We want to build on this success and continue to develop our vehicle consistently this season. Our clear goal is to make it even faster, lighter, and more powerful.

A key component in this is our in-house developed inverter. It is capable of controlling all four motors with just one device and, together with the battery and motors, forms the heart of our vehicle's electric powertrain.

Now that the inverter has also been developed entirely in-house, there are hardly any purchased circuit boards or controllers in the vehicle. Almost all electronic components were designed, laid out, and implemented in-house.

The new inverter has a powerful control circuit board, manufactured by PCBWay, which offers sufficient computing power to also integrate the vehicle's central control unit. This eliminates the need for additional external components.

Replacing the previously purchased components alone results in a weight saving of over 10 kg. In combination with the more precise and faster controllability of the inverter developed in-house, this leads to a significant performance gain and brings us a decisive step closer to our next success.
