Wentink Motion – CoreXY Kinematic Dynamics & Spectral Resonance Benchmarking
Project Specification: Wentink Motion – CoreXY Kinematic Dynamics & Spectral Resonance Benchmarking
Executive Summary
Wentink Motion is an engineering-focused R&D venture applying ISO-standardized industrial condition monitoring and vibration analysis to high-speed 3D printing platforms. Led by an ISO 18436-2 Category II Vibration Specialist, this project executes a controlled, comparative benchmarking study across two identical 350mm Voron 2.4 CoreXY architectures.
The primary goal is to evaluate the dynamic limits, structural modal responses, thermal endurance, and high-acceleration stability when transitioning from traditional stock-printed 24V 2WD setups to CNC-machined 48V All-Wheel Drive (AWD) motion systems.
Technical Objectives & R&D Scope
Spectral Resonance Profiling: Conduct ISO-aligned dynamic testing to map Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Power Spectral Density (PSD) graphs, identifying structural modal frequencies and dampening characteristics across X/Y/Z axes.
Kinematic Kinematics Comparison: Evaluate performance deltas across three distinct mechanical configurations:
Baseline Control: Stock printed ABS/ABS+ parts on 24V bus.
Intermediate Test: TinyShellScript (TSS) 2WD CNC aluminum components on 24V bus.
High-Speed Target: TSS AWD CNC system with 48V bus, high-voltage drivers, and dual-motor-per-belt kinematics.
High-Acceleration & Velocity Boundary Testing: Push acceleration limits beyond $35,000 \text{ mm/s}^2$ up to $50,000+ \text{ mm/s}^2$ to analyze corner smoothing, input shaping effectiveness, motor step-loss, and belt stretch dynamic tolerances.
Friction & Motion Control Diagnostics: Evaluate live idler systems and double-shear bearing alignment to minimize mechanical hysteresis, lower belt friction, and sustain higher belt tensions without premature bearing wear.
Thermal Saturation Mapping: Monitor continuous operating temperatures across stepper motors (Class HT $180^\circ\text{C}$), drive electronics, and structural mounting points under prolonged high-speed execution.
