Reefwing Display & Logging Shield

This shield is the display and datalogging companion to the Reefwing Battery Monitor Shield, from Chapter 13 of Embedded AI: Run at the Edge (No Starch Press, 2026). Together the two shields form a standalone battery characterization rig: the monitor shield charges, loads, and gauges the cell, while this shield logs every sample to microSD and shows live state of charge on the OLED.

It is also a useful general-purpose shield in its own right for any project that needs local display, removable storage, and simple user input.

What the board does:

Header for a 0.96" OLED display (DFRobot DFR0650)
microSD card socket for CSV data logging
DHT11 temperature and humidity sensor for ambient conditions alongside your logged data
Three user pushbuttons for menu navigation and logging control
DIP switch for configuration
Standard Arduino R3 shield form factor, stacks with the Battery Monitor Shield (revision DLS-1.0 verified compatible with BMS-1.0 and BMS-1.2)
