Power Actuator
A small circuit with a very low quiescent current draw (approx. 10µA at 3.3V), designed to switch a load connected to a separate supply voltage (Vcc)—ranging from +7V or +12V up to a maximum of 26V—with a capacity of up to 2A.
It features a dual-pin on/off control mechanism.
It is intended for scenarios where a device, such as an ESP8266, controls the state of a load (turning it on or off) before entering a "deep sleep" mode—leaving its control pins in a high-impedance (tri-state) condition while the load remains in its set state.
For example, it can be used to protect LiPo batteries during charging by preventing the process when the temperature drops below 0°C.
The controlling ESP8266 wakes up, checks whether charging is safe—using data from sensors like the BME280—activates or deactivates the charging circuit accordingly, and then returns to deep sleep.
This is particularly useful for outdoor, solar-powered systems where it is necessary to preserve the lifespan of LiPo, Li-ion, LiFePO4, or similar types of batteries.
