Portable Power Supply
This project is an idea hope to continue moving forward with even though as of right now its in early stages of development. The need had come up from travelling between my partners home, the office, business travel and wherever I needed to go. I found myself wishing I had something like this. So I decided it would be good to try and develop one from electronics, firmware and mechanical enclosure.
The power supply of this device is USBC, having found the great uses of USBC PD it is integrated into the project. The other power component of this are the two 18650 batteries which are detachable, I still wanted something portable, where I could set up and maybe run something for a while or I maybe I just dont have a wall socket near me. These batteries are used when USBC is not present, though at limited feature compared to using USBC. With them being detachable, the batteries it makes travelling a bit more lighter as more compact, or if you have no use for them at the moment.
There was quite a bit to learn to making this but the overall principal is to use a DAC to control a linear regulator which control the output of the device. There are other components involved such as ways that not a lot of heat is generated, trying to keep things low power, finding out what happens in different scenarios for example if a user plugs in a non compliant USBC and unable to negotiate what is wanted.
I had done a bit of testing already with the DAC I chosen and ensuring I could write to it and such, the TFT display I had gone with and overall getting myself familiar with this MCU of choice which is a STM32 and as mentioned before the USBC PD chip itself and finding out exactly at different scenarios where a user or myself may use a slightly lower PD rated charger for example 75W, do the chip still negotiate the highest it can get?
While only the schematic and layout is complete at the moment, currently looking to procure further parts to build this board. As this is the first iteration I fully expect mistakes and improvements can be made, the board is made large on purpose and the placement of anything is not final.
