NESP32 is an inexpensive, DIY wireless network interface for the Nintendo Entertainment System, built around the ESP32 microcontroller. This hat is what connects the two. It plugs onto the top of an M5 StickS3 and wires to controller port 2, so the console gets Wi-Fi with no changes inside it and no special cartridge hardware.

What your NES can do with it

• Play online. Tetris, Dr. Mario and Contra each get a two-player mode over the internet. Players join by a 4-character room code, so neither needs to forward a port.
• Stream audio. The Jukebox plays VGM/VGZ music and PCM samples through the NES’s own sound chip, and the NPR app tunes in live public radio stations.
• Browse. NESpedia searches and shows Wikipedia articles. Other apps show the weather, Bluesky and a live air traffic radar scope.
• Run your own software. The firmware exposes an API that any cartridge program can use, so homebrew developers can build their own networked NES games and apps.
