Touchscreen controller for electric boat
User input board is responsible for majority of communication between the pilot and the boat. Its main task is to operate the Thin Film Transistor (TFT) display and receive information from the user, through the resistive touch screen and further down through the SPI bus. Resistive touch screen is used because of its principle of work, which makes it insensitive to contact with water. For communication with rest of the boat CAN protocol is used. For this purpose, on User input board one can find a CAN transceiver. There are three voltage levels on the board. First, 12V is provided from an external source. Second, 5V is decreased from 12V using a step-down converter and third one, 3V3 is dropped from 5V using a low-dropout voltage regulator. Two such boards will be used, so there is a jumper which will inform the microcontroller whether given board is used as one on the left or on the right.
