Atari Jaguar to Genesis 2 AV cable adapter
Introduction
I wanted to use my Atari Jaguar on my television set, but it only came with an RF cable. First, I checked eBay to see if I could just buy a replacement cable, but they were over $40 - the Jaguar is an unpopular system, and so there aren't many inexpensive cables for sale.
However, I had a couple of very inexpensive Sega Genesis Model 2 AV cables, so I decided to make this small adapter board to let me use a Genesis AV cable for S-Video or composite.
The construction of this adapter will be covered in a future entry on my blog.
Limitations
Although the RGB pins are broken out on this adapter, it does not generate 5V from the Jaguar's 9V. This may still work okay with your RGB monitor or upscaler setup, but I have not tested it at all.
If you do test it, please let me know about what your setup is like so I can update this post!
Assembly
- Bend the pins on the Sullins edge connector so that they reach the pads on the board. You don't have to get it exactly right (the solder will "jump" if you have enough) but it is important that they get at least close.
- Solder the mini-DIN 9-pin (MD90S) to the appropriate connector on the board. Make sure you have not bridged any pins.
- Attach the edge connector to the Jaguar, and then plug in a Genesis Model 2 AV. Enjoy.
