Water meters have two usage types: prepaid and postpaid. Postpaid meters are regularly read by municipal personnel, while prepaid meters cut off the water supply to the house once the loaded amount is used up, requiring a new top-up. Since prepaid meters are not externally accessible, it is difficult to track how much water has been used and how much usage credit remains.

In this project, the water meter is regularly photographed with a camera. The captured photo will be sent to a server and processed using image processing techniques to obtain the numerical value shown on the meter. When a top-up is made to the prepaid meter, the usage amount will be deducted from the loaded amount to prevent unwanted water cuts.

The photo capture part of the project has been completed, and the meter reading part using image processing techniques is in the development phase.
