Infrared IoT hub for home automation - ESP32 version
I created this as a way of experimenting with using IR signals to communicate with Internet of Things (IoT) devices. It's essentially a dev board that can both receive and send IR signals. So, for example, you can control the board itself using standard IR remote control units. Or you can have the board control devices such as TVs, radios and more, all controlled programmatically if you wish. Because the board has integrated wifi via the plug-in ESP dev board, it can also communicate over the network.
I built two versions of the board, one using an ESP8266 and the other an ESP32. This page is for the latter version. The key difference is that this version can both send and receive while the ESP8266 board is designed to carry out just one of those functions (it depends on which components you add, although the board is the same in either case).
The code, schematics and Gerbers are available on GitHub.
Full details of the project are covered in articles on Machina Speculatrix (Medium subscription required).
Source code is available on GitHub: https://github.com/mspeculatrix/IR_IoT_hub.
NOTE: The BOM file does not include the ESP32 dev board or header pins. Also, it specifies green LEDs for the three indicator LEDs but you might want to use other colours.
