Evangelion Turbo — Advanced Mini Sumo Robot
Evangelion Turbo is my most advanced and ambitious mini sumo robot to date, developed as the successor to the original Evangelion platform. The project is designed specifically for high-level competition at RoboRave 2026, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and precision engineering. The robot fits within the 10 × 10 cm mini sumo footprint, while maintaining a total weight under 1 kg. The mechanical structure incorporates metal components for maximum rigidity and durability, manufactured with cost-efficient processes such as SLM, FDM and CNC.
At the core of the system is a high-performance STM32H5 microcontroller, enabling fast decision-making, advanced control algorithms, and real-time sensor fusion. The robot is equipped with:
- 4 distance sensors for opponent detection and tracking
- 4 line sensors for precise edge detection and ring control
- An onboard IMU for orientation awareness and dynamic response
- External EPROM memory for extended data storage and configuration
The drive system is built for aggressive performance. Two high-power motors are paired with a 7.5:1 gear ratio, delivering a balance of speed and torque optimized for pushing force and rapid maneuvering. Custom external MOSFET-based motor drivers allow efficient handling of high currents while maintaining thermal stability. Additionally, the motors are shielded to reduce electromagnetic interference, improving sensor reliability and system robustness.
This project emphasizes advanced PCB design, high-current power management, and compact integration of complex subsystems within strict competition constraints. The PCB layout is optimized for signal integrity, EMI reduction, and efficient power distribution.
Evangelion Turbo represents a significant step forward in my robotics development, combining mechanical engineering, embedded systems, and high-performance electronics into a single competitive platform.
