Turbo Evangelion
Evangelion Turbo - From Idea to Fighting Robot
Evangelion Turbo is my most ambitious robotics project yet! I’m a 17-year-old engineering enthusiast from Poland, and I designed and built this 1 kg miniSUMO robot from scratch for the RoboRAVE Robotics Championship 2026 in Osaka.
This project combines everything I love about engineering: electronics, PCB design, mechanical engineering, materials science, and programming. Inside its compact 10 × 10 cm footprint, Evangelion Turbo features custom-designed 4-layer PCBs, a powerful STM32H5 microcontroller, four time-of-flight distance sensors, four line sensors, an IMU, high-current motor drivers, and two powerful brushed DC motors. Its mechanical construction combines metal parts, CNC-machined components, and high-performance 3D-printed materials.
Of course, building a competitive robot is not just about making everything as powerful as possible. During development, I encountered challenges ranging from hardware design mistakes to the enormous torque of the motors lifting the front of the robot and affecting sensor performance. Every failure became an opportunity to learn, redesign, and improve. That is what makes engineering so exciting!
A huge thank you to PCBWay for supporting makers, students, and engineering enthusiasts like me. Access to professional PCB manufacturing and prototyping services makes it much easier to turn ambitious ideas into real, working hardware. Your support helps bring projects like Evangelion Turbo from a computer screen to the competition arena!
I would also like to thank everyone who supports independent engineering projects and encourages young people to experiment, build, and learn.
Want to see more? You're invited to visit my GitHub repository (https://github.com/Tacot3589/evangelion-turbo)! There, you can explore the project's 3D models, PCB designs, manufacturing files, photos, and development progress. Feel free to review the designs, learn from my mistakes, and get inspired to build something of your own.
My goal isn't just to build a robot that wins. It's to keep learning, push my engineering skills further, and inspire others to create something even better.
Build your own ideas. Make mistakes. Improve. And maybe I'll see you at the next competition!
PS. Currently im working on v2 of this robot, which is even better, faster, smaller!
