C64 XUM1541-II
I've previously done a version of the XUM1541, you can still find that as the C64 XUM1541 part of my shared projects. The reason for making another one? Primarily I wanted to be able to use later versions of the OpenCBM firmware (0.8 and probably later), but mainly just to try my hand at making one that looked a bit prettier on my desk.
For those of you that are not already familiar with the XUM1541 type of devices, it is an Arduino-based solution for connecting your vintage Commodore 1541 disk drives up to your modern computer. What this accomplishes is that you can easily archive your actively rotting collection of floppy disks to a digital medium, but note that you'd probably need a memory upgrade installed inside the drive to be able to archive copy-protected disks. For disks that were originally bought as blanks it should work perfectly without any needed upgrades to the drive - about a minute to copy each side of a disk, add a parallel interface to the disk drive and you could do this in about half a minute.
This project also comes with an optional faceplate, it's purpose is just to make it look like a pretty little device without actually buying, building or fixing your 3d printer. A ROM adapter as well as a parallel interface was also designed for the 1541-II disk drives as part of this project, for a general overview of all of them - check out my related shared projects.
