Amstrad CPC to VGA
CPC-to-VGA is an adapter to connect your CPC to any VGA monitor that supports a vertical frequency of 15.6kHz. A list of supported monitors can be found here: [(https://15khz.miraheze.org]
In many cases a simple passive adapter is sufficient but in some cases the VGA monitors need separate H-Sync and V-Sync signals. E.g. the famous NEC 1970NX won't work with the CPC directly as the CPC only provides a C-Sync signal. This adapter here uses a cheap LM1881 seperator chip to create the H-Sync and V-Sync from the CPCs C-Sync signal.
The PCB is based on the reference design and information found on the CPCWiki.eu forum.
The PCB is designed so it should fit all CPC models without blocking any ports.
BOM
- PCB - order from PCBWay
- VGA connector female (*)
- 6pin DIN - CPC monitor connector (male)
- 3x capacitor 100nF, 2.5mm
- 1x resistor 680Ohm
- LM1881 (DIP)
- 3D printed spacer for monitor plug (optional but recommended)
- 3x resistor 75Ohm (optional)
- depending on monitor, this could be required to optimize the picture
- if you add the resistors, cut the traces on the PCB first
(*) the PCB has been designed so that normal plugs as used in connector cables can be used. Panel mount connectors would probably have been the "better" solution but I wasn't aware of those when I designed the PCB.
