Amachiaro (Amanero alternative) to Protodac (Raspberry Hat Dac) Adaptor
I designed a small PCB that connects Amanero-type XMOS receivers to GPIO-capable DAC HATs. This makes it possible to use PCs and/or software that work exclusively over USB and/or hardware that doesn't support GPIO. Furthermore, you can mount a small linear power supply on this PCB to power the DAC with an external input with a typical 12V connection. Otherwise, you can get power from USB. If you use Amachiaro, this connection is free. Furthermore, with Amachiaro, you also have an additional SpDIF input that can be selected with a jumper and/or switch. In the photo, you can see it running on my Dual TDA1543 DAC HAT. Some people might wonder what purpose something like this has. Well, let's just say that the Raspberry Pi is an excellent, compact, and high-performance solution for creating streamers, but it's not the only one. Some examples?
HQPlayer (Linux / Windows); USB output only. Heavy upsampling (PCM→DSD, sinc-xtr, etc.).
Roon Core/Roon Bridge (x86 only (Intel/AMD)) JRiver Media Center (Windows/Linux/macOS), widely used in the "classic" audiophile scene. Daphile (this is a gem): Minimalist x86-only audiophile OS. Based on LMS (Squeezebox).
This also allows you to use the excellent DACs designed for Raspberry Pi with these applications, in a very compact and high-performance hardware environment. This way, the DAC returns to being what it should always be: a converter, not a computer in disguise.
