PCB board Printed Circuit Boards

printed circuit boards are found in all kinds of electronic gadgets, because these gadgets won’t be able to function without them. Depending on the kind of device, the circuit board can be a simple or complex. Read this article to know about the different types of printed circuit boards.

Single-sided circuit board

Among all the different kinds of circuit boards, the single-sided circuit board is the simplest and easiest to create. As a matter of fact, single-sided boards are commonly made at home. In this board, the wirings are attached to one side, while the components on the other side. These boards are also much cheaper as compared to double-sided or multilayer board. The disadvantage with this board, though, is that it can only be used for the simple kinds of circuitry because it cannot handle the complex and large ones.

Double-sided circuit boards

In a double-sided circuit board, both sides of insulating material have the wiring patterns. In comparison to single-sided circuit boards, both conductor lines and component density are much more efficient. The design of this board is much more complex and more compact than the single-sided board. This board has two kinds, which are the Double-Sided Board with Plated Through-Hole connection and the Double-Sided Board with Non-Plated Through-Hole connection. The disadvantage of this board is that it may have failures such as poor circuit performance that would result when the radio frequency signal would cross between conductors.

Multilayer circuit boards

Multilayer circuit boards are basically composed of a layer of fiberglass boards sandwiched on top of each other. Connection between one layer to another is possible with plated-through holes. Assembling a multilayer board requires high-precision and complexity that can only be made possible with a computer-assisted design. This board may have similar issues with that of the double-sided board, but its advantages are much greater than its disadvantages.

Flexible boards

Flexible boards, as the name implies, are made of plastic flexible plates. Components are soldered by a flexible printed circuit manufacturer and allow the board to be used in devices that have complicated shapes, such as mobile phones, television sets and vehicle dashboards.

Having the knowledge and skills in handling circuit boards will allow you to repair your own broken electronic equipment and save money.
