self-guided rocket

Dear PCBWay Team,

My name is Luigi, and I’m a 4th-year high-school student from Puglia, Italy. Over the past few years I’ve been designing and flight-testing TRAPPIST, a student-built, flight computer and thrust-vector-control (TVC) system for educational model rocketry, based on PID control.

The aim of the project consist in reach predetermined targets in air and using a camera on the nose to identify virtual targets, increasing the level of precision in ascent and descent of the rocket and trying to make it land safe.

I've developed some experimental PCB in the past and i'm currently learning many things about electronics.

Project at a glance

  1. Flight computer: Teensy 4.1; BMP180 (barometric altitude); BNO055 (9-axis IMU for pitch/roll/yaw); three pyro channels for parachute deployment; GPS (next revision); HC-12 telemetry (next revision); MPU6050 for TVC position feedback/centering.
  2. Mechanical: TVC and airframe designed in Fusion 360; PLA 3D-printed parts.
  3. Software & tests: OpenRocket for trajectory estimates and a custom C++ software for PID controller constants estimation. The first flight took place in March (initial version without GPS/HC-12). video overview:

As I step forward in this project the amounts of components, sensors and materials will increase and with that also the financial investments required. You from PCBway from my point of view offer a big opportunity in terms of price-quality and it would be lovely if you can support my project in any way, I will off course documenting every aspect of this self-guided rocket looking ahead to more ambitious projects in my future aerospace career.

What I’m requesting

Sponsorship support for the next PCB revision of TRAPPIST — fabrication and, if possible, assembly of key SMT components. I can share Gerbers, schematic, BOM, and assembly drawings.
