Team Robotoid - Belgrade Student Robotics team

Founded in 2019 at the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Robotoid is a student robotics team dedicated to the design and development of fully autonomous robotic systems. The team consists of up to 30 students from various universities in Belgrade, primarily from the Faculties of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. By bringing together students from multidisciplinary backgrounds, Robotoid fosters collaboration between mechanical design, electronics, embedded systems, and software development.

Robotoid actively participates in the Eurobot robotics competition, one of the most prestigious European student robotics competitions held annually in France, as well as in regional qualifying competitions in Serbia. Each year, depending on the competition rules, the team develops and operates up to five or six autonomous robots designed to perform complex tasks entirely autonomously. One of the team’s notable achievements includes securing 5th place at the regional Eurobot competition.

All robotic systems are developed entirely in-house, including mechanical, electronic, and software components. Custom printed circuit boards are designed using KiCad, integrating power management, motor control, sensor interfaces, and communication systems. Each year, multiple PCB revisions are produced, including testing and final competition versions, with additional prototyping on custom protoboards to ensure reliability and performance.

Robotoid’s robots utilize a wide range of sensors, including LiDAR systems, magnetic encoders, laser distance sensors, ultrasonic sensors, and incremental encoders, enabling precise localization and motion control. The systems are powered by embedded platforms such as Raspberry Pi 4 and 5, Raspberry Pi Pico, and Arduino microcontrollers, selected according to subsystem requirements.

Manufacturing is carried out using modern rapid prototyping techniques, including FDM and SLS 3D printing, laser cutting of aluminum structural components, and the use of carbon fiber materials to achieve lightweight and robust designs. These technologies allow the team to iterate quickly and optimize performance within strict competition timelines.

Beyond technical development, Robotoid serves as an educational platform where students gain practical engineering experience by working on real-world systems. Members develop skills in system integration, embedded programming, electronics design, mechanical engineering, and project management.

The team’s long-term goal is to successfully compete at the European finals of Eurobot in France and continuously improve the performance and reliability of its autonomous robotic systems. Robotoid is also committed to mentoring new generations of engineers, empowering students to transform theoretical knowledge into practical and innovative engineering solutions.

The team would greatly benefit from the support of PCBWay. As a student team developing fully autonomous robotic systems for international competitions, we face challenges in producing reliable, high-quality PCBs within limited budgets and tight deadlines. Fast and precise PCB manufacturing would significantly improve our development cycle and allow us to validate hardware revisions more efficiently. PCBWay’s support would enhance our power, motor control, and sensor interface boards while providing members with valuable hands-on experience in professional PCB development. We are excited about the opportunity to collaborate and grow together through innovation and competitive robotics.
