PGRacing Team - Formula Student Team
PGRACING TEAM is a team of students from GDAŃSK TECH (Poland). The activity of the team began in the second half of 2014 as an initiative of a group of students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. During these more than 10 years, 8 generations of vehicles were created in the team's workshop! Our main goal is to design and construct a real race car with our own hands. We compete with teams from all over the world on the most famous and prestigious race tracks such as the RedBull Ring in Austria or the Hockenheimring in Germany.
The ultimate goal is to compete in the most prestigious academic racing series - Formula Student. Participation in the FS tournaments is the climax of the season, serving as a verification of the work made by whole team throughout the year. The competition always generates new challenges that make the whole project even more fascinating. For us, the construction of the single seater race car is connected with, above all, new experiences, skills and the shaping of great work discipline, while also enjoying the experience. Let's also not forget about the friendships established between team members and our partners.
As PGRacing Team, we are constantly striving for development and are not afraid of challenges. The upcoming season will be special for us, as we will be working on three projects. The main goal will be to build the PGR-08 EVO hybrid car, which will use a combination of the advantages of a classic internal combustion engine supported by an electric motor. In addition, separate groups will develop the team's first-ever electric car and an autonomous driving system. In this way, we are meeting the changes taking place in the rapidly developing automotive world.
The electric car will be built on the basis of an existing monocoque, to which new solutions will be implemented. Project highlights: design of high-voltage electronics, development of the battery management system (BMS), ensuring adequate cooling of the battery and motors, development of an advanced motor control system, development of the electrical harness
Electronics are a key component of our race car. It is made entirely by us from the design to the physical fabrication of the components. Similarly, the PCBs are designed by us. We are currently looking for a partner who can supply PCBs for our latest car. The all-electric race car project presents new challenges and new opportunities in terms of PCB design.
Types of PCBs we manufacture and their applications:
- Front Telemetry Module – data acquisition to SD card, integration of front IMU, GPS module handling, acquisition from front wheel speed sensors, CAN-based transmission to radio telemetry module, damper sensor interface, dual CAN communication support.
- Rear Telemetry Module – data acquisition from non-OEM engine sensors, rear wheel speed sensing, rear damper position sensing, rear IMU integration, extended ADC channels for future sensor expansion, single CAN interface.
- Power Distribution Module (PDM) – centralized power management for the entire vehicle, supports overcurrent and overvoltage protection, safety line interface, real-time fault detection, power consumption monitoring, dual CAN communication.
- Dashboard Module – driver interface for real-time telemetry display, full display controller integration, dual CAN support.
- Brake System Plausibility Device (BSPD) – safety mechanism validating throttle and brake plausibility to prevent unsafe vehicle behavior.
- Intercom Board – interface board for radio communication system.
- Low Voltage Battery Management System (LV BMS) – voltage monitoring, temperature sensing, basic cell health diagnostics.
- MLX Test Boards – development boards for integrating IR thermal imaging sensors, transmitting temperature data over CAN bus.
- BSPD Test Board – diagnostic and validation board for BSPD system simulation and testing.
- GearChange Board – controller for gear shifting actuators and throttle control, including real-time validation of accelerator pedal position sensor
- Hybrid Battery Management System (Hybrid BMS) – voltage and temperature monitoring of hybrid battery pack, integrated hybrid safety controls.
- BMS Slave Board – module responsible for high-voltage battery segment data acquisition (voltage, temperature).
- BMS Master Board – supervisory controller for BMS architecture; handles cell balancing algorithms, collects data from BMS slaves, controls AIR (Accumulator Isolation Relays).
- TSAL (Tractive System Active Light) – high-voltage status indicator board; signals system activation and HV-related faults.
- Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) – central logic controller handling traction control, launch control, powertrain data aggregation, and drive system coordination.
We believe that PCBWay's support will help us to develop reliable PCBs that will stand up to the hardships of motorsport. In addition, together we can develop electronic technologies and young engineers.
In return for support, we can offer the PCBWay logo on our race car and other advertising materials. Additionally, we can promote the collaboration on our social media.
